Biscuit Jointer

A Biscuit Jointer provides a quick and easy way of joining pieces of wood together.  They work by cutting crescent shaped slots into both items to be joined and then bringing the two pieces together around a tight fitting, flat and elliptical piece of wood creating a join. The biscuits are made from a compressed wood and before they are inserted into the slots they should be coated in glue, the glue causes the biscuit to expand which creates an even stronger joint.  Depending upon the length of the two pieces to be joined multiple biscuits may be used.

The slots are cut using a blade resembling a thick circular saw blade that is plunged into the work piece to a depth set by the size of the biscuit to be used.

Features to look out for include a good quality fence. A poor quality fence can lead to misaligned cuts which in turn leads to a poor joint. Some feature a slow start motor, this will gradually build the speed of the motor in order to prevent any kick upon switch on.
